Perinatology is a medical specialty that focuses on the health status of the fetus and the mother, covering the antenatal, delivery and postnatal periods. This specialty, which follows high-risk pregnancies in particular, evaluates, diagnoses and manages the potential risks that mothers and babies may have.

Perinatologists (also called maternal-fetal medicine specialists) assess and manage these high-risk pregnancies and diagnose and treat potential problems with the fetus. They also specialize in prenatal testing, ultrasonographic evaluations and other diagnostic procedures.
